Call for Papers Guidelines
Title: titles need to be no more than 12 words in length for the purposes of the program. If you are adapting a paper or thesis with a longer name, please adjust the title to something shorter. You can write the whole name of your thesis or paper in your abstract. 50 Word Abstract: this is what goes in the program. It may be edited for clarity, and will be edited if it is longer than 50 words. 300 Word Abstract: This tells the reviewer more about your presentation, which helps with deciding when the presentation will be during the day. An effort is made to give a wide variety of presentations during each block of time. Posters: The 50 word abstract is not necessary for posters. Please send the 300 word abstract. Titles may be longer than 12 words. Please do check the “Focus of Topic” boxes that apply on the Call for Papers form; format and length are unnecessary. You may submit a poster even if you are not able to attend the conference. Presiders: Presiders are a person who introduces the presenter(s), helps them manage their time, helps with set-up, hands out and collects the feedback forms at the end of your presentation. A presider can be a friend, a teacher, a supervisor, another professional, a classmate or anyone else who would like to come to Passages to do this with you. It is helpful if your presider knows you, because they can do a better job of introducing you and your work. Please ask any potential presider before submitting their name. Sometimes teachers or supervisors may not be able to attend all of Passages or may be asked by more than one student to preside. If you do not have a presider in mind, a student can be assigned to you before the conference if you wish. If not, someone will be chosen to introduce you on the day of the conference. Note: if someone is assigned on the day of the conference, they may not be able to help you with set-up. Student Contact: If you would like, a student can be assigned to you to assist you prior to your presentation. This can be a student who is assigned as a presider or not. They will check in with you and make sure that you have everything you need, know where to go on the day of the conference, or can be someone to run ideas by or ask any other questions of. You can still have a student contact assigned to you even if you have a presider already. Once your proposal is accepted: Every effort is made to put your presentation is a slot that works for you if you can’t stay all day. However, because of space limitations this is not guaranteed. If you have requested AV equipment and plan to use a computer and projector, you MUST supply your own computer. One Mac laptop & connection adapter will be available for emergency use. If you have a Mac, you must supply your own miniDVI to VGA adapter. The conference space does not have enough connection adapters for Mac computers, and does not have the correct adapters for older Macs. You can purchase the correct cable for your Mac computer at the Apple Store, either in person or online. It is an inexpensive investment that will serve you whenever you present with a computer!
